This site is incredible. I am 59 post menopausal. I am convinced I am allergic to estrogen even tho my blood serum levels say I am low everytime I try taking it I become very very depressed. I am currently on 300 mg of bioidentical progesterone caps daily and seem to do great. I never have heard anyone ever say we may be allergic to any type of hormone. I know I must be. My doctor thought I was crazy when I told him I couldn't take estrogen in any form that it made me feel horrible. PLEASE PLEASE tell me how I may go about hormonal balance. Many blessings...Dianne

I am 44 years old and for about 10 years now have had symptoms of hormone imbalance with fatigue being the most extreme symptom. With the help and advice of a compounding pharmacist I started progesterone cream and interestingly he recommended Ioderal (Iodine) supplements for low thyroid function and for my severe fibrocystic breasts. It took about 3 or 4 months of taking the Iodine to notice any difference, but my energy level is much improved! What is amazing is the improvement of my fibrocystic breasts. I still have a few lumps and bumps but the tenderness and pain has almost been completely alleviated! I I have also lost a couple of pounds and I expect that as my thyroid "kicks in again" I will lose more. (I have gained about 10 pounds that won't go away)

I am not recommending but suggesting you research Ioderal (Iodine) and ask your practitoner (or doctor) about it!! It has made the difference for me. (along with vitamins and supplements that I take every day)

I am a former Atkins Center Practitioner, & lecturer on Bio-identical
hormones. Virginia, you and Dr. Lee were so gracious to help us
with so much good information over the years, while Dr. Lee and
Dr. Atkins were alive. I am happy to see you are continuing his work, and enjoy the newsletter.
Dr. Leonetti, I was to pleased to see your comment on NAET re:
progesterone allergies. I have been an NAET practitioner since
2001, and have had found this method extremely effective with women who could not get adjusted on bio-identical hormones.
Although, progesterone allergy is not common, when it occurs, these women suffer. Treating with NAET has made it possible for them to tolerate, and benefit from the progesterone they so desparatey need.
Again thanks for all your help in the past, and for the continuing the newsletter.

Wow...I would like more information on Progesterone and weight gain. I am 49 and have been using progesterone cream for a few years to control symptoms like extreme bloating and several other symptoms.

At the same time, I have been struggling with a 10 lb weight gain that I cannot lose. I have been able to maintain my weight for my adult life (with diet and exercise) but now I have gained this weight and cannot lose it. I never connected it to the progesterone. Six months ago, I started working out with a personal trainer 3 days a week and I walk, bike, or hike the other days of the week. I am on a restricted calorie (but healthy) diet....and nothing. The scale won't move. I am gaining muscle, but I am not losing fat. I've had my thyroid and other things tested and the doctors say, I'm fine. But, I'm going out of my mind because I cannot figure out why I am not losing weight.

Is there a connection here? I am beyond frustrated.

I certainly appreciate the information I have just read, because it validates what I have been experiencing for the past 2 years that I have been using progesterone cream. I am post-menopausal now, and used progesterone cream during perimeopause and menopause which worked wonderfully. Then I stopped because I thought I did not need it anymore. After a year, I felt like my cells of my body were all "dry", and my hot flashes were returning. I also experienced a significant increase in my SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) which landed me in the ER for the first time. After reading John Lee's book (and 2 others by MDs), I started on progesterone cream again, and increased my magnesium and lessened my calcium. Not only did my hot flashes subside, but I feel "normal" again. And, surprisingly, my SVT episodes decreased by 80%! The "3 weeks on-1 week off" progesterone cream schedule did not work for me, so my alternative MD recommended that I use it 5 days on, 2 days off. This works perfectly for me. Thank you for all of this valuable information-it is great guidance.

Does Progestrone make you fat?
I have noticed that the last couple months as I am taking progestrone, I have also become fat. The main area is my stomach. Can it be the progestrone?

Progesterone was a lifesaver for me in 1998 when I had a partial hysterectomy for uterine fibroids. In 2001, I met an anti-aging physician specializing in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. I get annual saliva tests and she adjusts my hormone creams accordingly. In my search for hormone balance, the book "Discover your Menopause Type" was recommended to me. That book plus Dr. John Lee's books helped me immensely. There are 12 types of menopause and I found that the book helped me know and understand my particular type such as what herbs to take and what to avoid. Also, helped me to understand the hormonal changes I was going through. I found that educating myself about my body has also helped me to feel better. I enjoy this website and all the information you provide.....thanks...

I've been using progesterone cream for a few years now. Whilst I am free from the tyranny of mood-swings, cramps, irritability etc etc, I have recently started having auras (I'm a grand mal epileptic) during my period. I am one of those epileptics that suffers with big hormonal changes and my gynae has told me I have another polyp. I would like to know why my epilepsy and hormones upset each other?!

Having read all Dr John Lee's books, I would do ANYTHING not to have to give up progesterone cream!

Thanks

Progesterone & weight gain....interesting comments from Val on 10/11/09....I have used progesterone for 2/3 mos now. ... am sleeping better, major decrease in night sweats....glad to hear I can stop for only 3-5 days....at 7 days it was back to the old ways....still am looking for a full night's sleep rather than the sleep 3 hrs awake 1 & back to sleep.. ...now the weight gain with the amount of exercise & very good eating habits....weight is an issue. Plan to go to an endocrinologist though my thyroid tests are all low normal. Libido & vaginal dryness still reign within me...looking for a rejuvnated libido....any suggestions??

I have been using natural progesterone cream since October 1997. My hair loss stopped. My mood swings calmed. My memory improved. My bone density which before beginning the Progresterone cream was of an 85 yr old, is now the bone density of a 35 yr old. I was 58 yrs old when I started it and am now 70 yrs. My bone density increased by 11.3% over 3 years and has stayed up since then. I have had many falls which, for my age, should have broken my bones but have not done so. People who know me well and also strangers take me for no more than 55 years of age. How flattering.
